Take a look a the difference between two mail boxes one with moderate weather brick, and the other a severe weather brick. Over time a moderate weather brick will absorb water, and freeze in the winter, cause the face of the brick to chip, and pop off. Severe weather brick are made not to absorb water, so it will not chip or pop off.
